Rolling fairways carved from the cotton rows of yesteryear forms a 100 plus acre country club facility appropriately named Acadian Hills. This country club was designed and built in 1962. For years the beauty of the 100 plus acres of the terrain belonged to the crop and dairy farmers. Throughout the design of the course, all aspects have emphasized harmony with the natural surroundings.
The founding owners of the Dr. Eric E. Guilbeau, Sr. family envisioned a club that was very family friendly with a relaxing feel to it. These family members wanted to provide an atmosphere that had all of the amenities of a private club; yet, one that opened its doors to golfing friends. The Acadian style clubhouse serviced its members and guests for some 39 years before being destroyed by fire in April of 2001. A building atmosphere that was rich in storytelling and nostalgia was left to ashes; however, the new clubhouse provides our members with a full service facility that includes even more luxuries than before.
The 18-hole golf course layout offers golfing enthusiasts a first rate caliber course strategically designed to challenge all playing levels. This course winds through live hardwood and tall pine trees and natural vegetation that features five manmade lakes and a snaking coulee. The elevation variations and wildlife accentuate the flowing terrain. Sand and grass bunkers dot the fairways and guard the slightly sloped greens. One of the interesting accounts that our golfing storytellers hold onto from days gone by is when the course first opened, the true test was to see how many cotton rows one could roll their tee shot over before the ball would come to a complete stop! Today, the tight, plush fairways offer a totally new look and challenge and provide a different backdrop for future golfing stories.
Acadian Hills Country Club offers a unique setting combining the mystiques of golf course designer Bill Bass, as well as offering all the other country club amenities such as dining, and swimming. All of this is infused with Cajun hospitality and charm. Bill Bass, Charlie Dugas, and Lucas Barbato have placed their handy prints on the course evolution over the years. In 1980 Jay Riviere redesigned the course. Chad Massie, current club pro, continues to put his spin on course updating.
Acadian Hills Country Club is ideally situated along the I-10/I-49 corridor in Lafayette, making it highly attractive and easily accessible to all members. Whether for a challenging round of golf or relaxation amongst nature and friends, Acadian Hills awaits the opportunity to serve you.
